Wald Named to Jewish Sports Review All-America Baseball Team

WASHINGTON, DC - The Jewish Sports Review has selected Jake Wald (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) to the 2002 College Baseball Division I All-America Team. The team was selected before the start of the NCAA Championships and College World Series. Four of the players named to the team were selected in the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft, including Wald.
Wald, a junior who was chosen in the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft by the San Francisco Giants in the 11th round with the 337th pick, played in 62 games this year for GW, batting .333 on 76 hits in 228 at-bats, with 12 home runs and 17 doubles. He scored 61 runs to lead the Colonials and ranked third in the Atlantic 10 Conference in runs scored. He also led GW in stolen bases with 19. The shortstop ranked among the top 10 in Atlantic 10 leaders in seven offensive categories.
Wald was named to the Atlantic 10 Baseball All-Conference Second Team on May 16 and to the Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team on May 25 after blasting a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to power the Colonials to a 6-4 win over Richmond for the Atlantic 10 Tournament championship. He also was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on May 13.
Currently, Wald plays for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, a Northwest League affiliate of the Giants in Keiser, OR. To date, he has appeared in 23 games, leads the team with 84 at-bats and is tied for team lead with 32 total bases and two home runs, while collecting 10 RBIs.
