Five Named to Atlantic 10 Baseball All-Conference Teams

WASHINGTON, DC - Five Colonials have been named to the Atlantic 10 Baseball All-Conference Team in a vote by Conference head coaches, the conference office has announced. Seniors Mike Bassett (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) and Mike O'Connor (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joe's) were selected to the First Team, while senior Matt Krimmel (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) and juniors Jake Wald (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) and Greg Conden (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) were named to the Second Team.
Bassett leads the Colonials this season in hits (77), home runs (16), RBIs (68), total bases (141), and at-bats (203). The outfielder broke GW career records in hits (275), runs (189), home runs (59), RBIs (245), total bases (508) and at-bats (808). Bassett ranks among the top five Atlantic 10 batting leaders in seven offensive categories.
O'Connor, a lefthander who appeared in 26 games this season, leads the Colonials with nine saves, 22 games finished, and 61 strikeouts. He is one save shy of tying the GW individual season record for saves. O'Connor leads the Atlantic 10 in appearances and saves, while also ranking among the top six in four other pitching categories.
Krimmel, a tri-captain who primarily plays third base, leads the Colonials with 22 doubles and 238 total plate appearances. He ranks among the top five Atlantic 10 batting leaders in eight offensive categories. Wald has scored 61 runs this season to lead the Colonials and rank third in the Atlantic 10 in runs scored. He also leads GW in stolen bases with 19. The shortstop ranks among the top 10 Atlantic 10 batting leaders in seven offensive categories. This season, Conden tied the GW individual season record for victories (10 set in 1979). He leads the Colonials with 13 game starts and 80 innings pitched. The righthander's 3.60 earned-run average ranks him sixth in the conference.
The Colonials have an overall record of 37-19 and 17-7 in the Atlantic 10. They are the third seed in the Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Tournament May 16-18 at Dodd Memorial Stadium in Norwich, CT.
