WASHINGTON, DC - Junior Jake Wald (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) has been named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week the conference office has announced. This is Wald's first A-10 honor this season.
Wald played and started all five games this week. He collected 10 hits in 18 at-bats (.556), blasting two home runs and stroking four doubles. Wald scored eight runs and drove in five for the week with a slugging percentage of 1.111. He went four-for-eight with three runs scored and three walks in GW's weekend series with Xavier. Wald's two home runs bring his total for the season to 10, more than doubling his career record prior to this season which stood at eight. He now has hit 18 in his career.
Wald has had a consistent season for the Colonials. Currently, he leads the team in runs scored (61) and stolen bases (19). Wald is second on the team in doubles (17), at bats (189), walks (34), and total plate appearances (233).
Wald and the Colonials next travel to Dodds Memorial Stadium in Norwich, CT for the Atlantic 10 Tournament. GW will play their first game on Thursday, May 16 against Dayton at 4:00 p.m.
