Volleyball Outlasts Duquesne, 3-1

PITTSBURGH, PA (Sept. 22) - The GW volleyball team won its second straight Atlantic 10 Conference match with a 32-30, 30-24, 26-30, 35-33 victory over Duquesne Saturday night at DU's A.J. Palumbo Center. Sophomore Ruth Lazzari (Seal Beach, CA) led all players with 18 kills and had 16 digs while hitting .239.
Fellow sophomores Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID) and Laura Harrison (West Hills, CA) contributed 17 kills each with Hokom adding a career-high 20 digs, three service aces and three blocks. Harrison also double-doubled with 17 digs.
Freshman middle blocker Britta Stroman (Richfield, MN) added nine kills and a pair of block assists while sophomore setter Lauren Dunning (Stockton, CA) had 49 assists.
GW (2-6, 2-0 A-10) hit .120 as a team with 92 digs and 10 service aces in the two-hour, 20-minute marathon, by far its longest match of the season.
Duquesne (6-3, 0-1 A-10) was led by Sherene Lemonias' 16 kills and 17 digs. The Dukes posted 16 block assists and nine service aces. Duquesne hit .142 with 55 kills and 84 digs.
After an 0-6 start, the Colonials will try for their third straight win at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. in Baltimore.
