Sophomore Tony Dokoupil (Severna Park, MD/ Severna Park), who went three for five with three RBI’s, got the Colonials going in the third to break a scoreless tie. After sophomore Jake Wald (Alexandria, VA/ T.C. Williams) drew a leadoff walk, Dokoupil followed with his third home run of the year to give the Colonials a 2-0 lead.
In the fourth, the Colonials added to their lead with a two out rally. Senior Ross Smirne (Fleetville, PA/ Lackawanna Trail) started things off with a single up the middle. Wald followed with another single before Dokoupil doubled to left center to make it 3-0. After senior Tony Brown (Hockessin, DE/ A.I. DuPont) walked to load the bases, junior Matt Krimmel (Schnecksville, PA/ Parkland) followed with a three-run single to right to give the Colonials a 6-0 lead.
GW scored single runs in the fifth and seventh before adding three more in the eighth to push the lead to 11-2.
Conden made the big lead stand up as he pitched six innings allowing two runs on four hits in winning his third straight start. Junior Mike O’Connor (Ellicott City, MD/ Mt. St. Joe’s) and senior Bryan Beggs (Somerset, PA/ Somerset) pitched the final three innings to close out the Colonials 22nd victory of the season.
The Colonials return to Barcroft Park on Tuesday, April 17, to face the Midshipmen of Navy. GW defeated Navy, 3-2, on March 20 in Annapolis. Junior Chris Worth (North Arlington, NJ/ N. Arlington) will get the start for the Colonials. First pitch is 3:00 p.m.
