WASHINGTON, DC (Nov. 9) - The captains for the 2002 George Washington University baseball team will be senior infielder Matt Krimmel (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland), senior pitcher Chris Worth (North Arlington, NJ/N. Arlington) and junior infielder Chris Barry (Orchard Park, NY/Canisius), head coach Tom Walter announced on Friday, Nov. 9.
Krimmel, a co-captain on last season's squad, was a second team All-Atlantic 10 selection last season and the team MVP. He led the team with 58 hits, finished second on the team with a .361 batting average and finished third on the team with 49 RBIs.
Worth, a member of the starting rotation for the past two seasons, won six games for the Colonials last season. He ranks 11th on GW's all-time list with 13 victories. He also is tied for seventh in appearances with 54 and ranks 10th in starts with 30.
Barry, a versatile player with power, finished tied for third on the team with eight home runs last season while batting .315 in 52 games. He can play three infield positions and is poised for a breakout season after recovering from shoulder surgery this summer.
The Colonials finished the season with a school-record 38 victories and came within one game of qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1992 last season. With seven of nine starters and five of his top seven pitchers returning this season, Walter fully expects Krimmel, Worth and Barry to lead the team back into the NCAA Tournament.
