Volleyball Sweeps La Salle, 3-0

PHILADELPHIA, PA (Oct. 30) - Freshman Britta Stroman (Richfield, MN) put together one of her best efforts as a collegian with a match-high 14 kills in 23 attempts with just four errors to hit .435 in leading the GW volleyball team past La Salle, 30-23, 30-25, 30-19, Tuesday night in Philadelphia. The Colonials won their second straight match and completed the regular-season sweep of the Explorers.
Sophomore Ruth Lazzari (Seal Beach, CA) also contributed 13 kills and a match-high 18 digs in the one-hour, 31-minute match. The outside hitter added a pair of block solos while hitting .250.
Freshman Katie Downey (Caldwell, ID) was solid for the second consecutive outing with nine kills and a pair of blocks.
GW combined to hit .209 (53 kills, 25 errors, 134 attempts) compared to La Salle's .076 (32 k, 22 e, 131 att.). The Explorers were tougher at the net with 12 total blocks to eight for GW.
La Salle (9-19, 0-12 A-10) was led by Lauren Woods' 11 kills and Caitlin DeJong's 13 digs.
GW (6-13, 5-6 A-10) returns home to Smith Center for a pair of A-10 matches beginning Friday with Massachusetts at 7:00 p.m. followed by Rhode Island Saturday also at 7:00 p.m.
