Dayton Gets Past GW, 3-1

COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL WASHINGTON, DC (Oct. 14) - The Colonials' Ruth Lazzari (Seal Beach, CA) pounded a match-high 18 kills but it wasn't enough as visiting Dayton defeated GW, 30-17, 30-21, 17-30, 30-19, Sunday in an Atlantic 10 Conference match at GW's Smith Center. The Flyers hit .276 with 60 kills to .176 (49 kills) for GW. It was Dayton's sixth straight victory and sent GW to its fifth straight loss.
Dayton had little trouble putting GW away in games one and two but the Colonials came out in game three on a mission. GW rushed out to leads of 6-0, 15-3 and 22-9 to catch the Flyers flat-footed. The Colonials combined to hit .367 in game three while holding Dayton to just .083.
Game four was tied at 11-11 before a kill by Erin Treadway sparked the Flyers to a 13-4 run as Dayton coasted to the victory.
Sophomore Sarah Hokom (Caldwell, ID) and freshman Molly Law (Denver, CO) each recorded nine kills and Hokom added a match-high 14 digs. Lauren Dunning (Stockton, CA) assisted on 31 kills and added 11 digs.
Dayton (13-4, 7-1 A-10) was led by Susan Westbrock's 16 kills and six block assists. Treadway and Katie Ferriell added 14 kills each. Treadway also dug 13 attacks while Ferriell had 10 digs.
GW (4-11, 3-5 A-10) hosts Duquesne Friday when the Dukes come to Smith Center for a 7:00 p.m. match.
