5/11/2000 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
Miller, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound point guard from Bronx, NY, averaged seven points, 5.4 rebounds and seven assists in leading the Ravens to the Catholic High School league title in New York City. Miller was named to the All-Division team by the league's coaches.
A two-year starter for the Ravens, Miller shot 48 percent from the floor and 79 percent from the free throw line as a senior. St. Raymond's posted a combined two-year record of 44-11 (.800) during Miller's two seasons on the varsity squad under coach Gary Decesare.
"(Darnell) was the heart and soul of the team," Decesare said. "We had two 20-point scorers on the team and Darnell's job was to get the ball to them. Our success as a team depended on Darnell."
"He's a proven winner and a pure point guard which is hard to find these days," Penders said. "I felt one of our problems (last season) was lack of depth at the point position and I think Darnell will help us in that area."
