Washington, DC (April 5) - The George Washington baseball team scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Navy 6-5 at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA.
Trailing 5-4 heading into the eighth, the Colonials took advantage of a bases loaded walk and an error to beat Navy for their sixth consecutive victory. Freshman Tony Dokoupil (Pau Pau, WV/Severna Park) drew a walk with the bases loaded to tie the game, and sophomore Mike Bassett (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) scored the winning run when Navy's catcher dropped the ball as he was applying the tag for the third out.
GW was led offensively by Bassett and junior Dan Rouhier (McLean, VA/St. Alban's). Bassett connected for a three run home run in the sixth inning, his 11th of the season, and Rouhier went 3-3 on the day.
Freshman Glen Skutnik (Lorton, VA/Hayfield) collected the win for the Colonials, and junior Bryan Beggs (Somerset, PA/Somerset) pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his fourth save of the year. The win improves Skutnik 2-1 on the season.
With the win, the Colonials are now 21-13 on the season, and Navy dropped to 12-12-1.
The Colonials return to action tomorrow when they host Howard University at 3:00 p.m. at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA.
