Baseball Loses To Towson 3-2
4/11/2000 12:00:00 AM | Baseball
Casey Stidham (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) led Towson offensively by connecting for two solo home runs, including the game-winner in the top of the eighth. The home runs were Stidham's fourth and fifth of the year.
Stidham's offense was all the Tiger's needed. Towson got solid performances on the mound from Wayne Freuerherd (Linthicum, MD/North County) and Mike Howells (Nescopek, PA/Berwick Area). Howells pitched in relief of Freuerherd and earned his second win of the season, evening his record to 2-2 on the season. Howells pitched three and a third innings, only giving up one run, and Freuerherd pitched five and two thirds innings, surrendering only one run and striking out one.
The Colonials could only produce a solo home run by senior Matt Walker (Gibsonia, PA/U. of South Carolina), his seventh on the year, and a RBI single by sophomore Mike Bassett (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) against the Tiger's pitching.
The win improves the Tigers' record to 14-11-1 on the year.
The Colonials return to the diamond tomorrow when they host James Madison University at 3:00 p.m. at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA.
