Baseball Falls To Pacific, 5-2

STOCKTON, Calif.* The Pacific baseball team improved to 11-2 with a 5-2 win over George Washington on Friday, Mar. 3 at Billy Hebert Field. The Tigers are currently on a three-game winning streak, while the Tigers* snapped George Washington*s (4-7) three-game winning streak.
Senior Steve Fischer (Benicia, Calif.) improved to 4-0 this season, as he allowed only three hits and two runs (one earned) during his seven innings on the mound. Fischer was relieved by junior Kyle Albers (Chino Hills, Calif.) in the eighth, before senior closer Mark Short (Ukiah, Calif.) entered in the ninth inning. Short, who led the Tigers and the Big West Conference in saves last season with seven, recorded his first save of the season.
The Colonials took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Ryan Dacey scored an unearned run off a sacrifice fly by Matt Walker. George Washington added another run in the third as Walker recorded a base hit to right field.
Junior Chris Moreno (Stockton, Calif.) got things started for the Tigers in the first inning, as he recorded his first triple of the season to drive in Pacific*s first run. Moreno, who went two-of-four with one RBI, continues to lead the Tigers with a .429 average. Senior Ryan Stowasser (Torrance, Calif.) drove in a pair of runs in the fourth inning, while sophomore Jason Walker (Ontario, Calif.) added another. The Tigers scored their final run of the game in the sixth inning.
The Tigers, who are in the midst of an 18-game home stand, return to action on Saturday, Mar. 4, as Pacific continues its three-game series against George Washington. The first pitch is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday.
