Washington, DC (Mar. 19) - The George Washington baseball team defeated Cleveland State 4-2 at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA. The win completed a three-game sweep of the Vikings and extended the Colonials' winning streak to ten games.
The Colonials took an early lead on Cleveland State by scoring two runs in the first inning. Redshirt freshman Travis Crowder (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) jump started the offense by leading off with a single to center field. Crowder then stole second, and was singled home by senior Matt Walker (Gibsonia, PA/South Carolina). Walker was then driven-in by an RBI single by junior Dan Rouhier (McLean, VA/St. Alban's).
Cleveland State closed the gap in the second inning on Adam Miller's solo home run, but GW extended its lead to 4-1 in the fourth inning. Freshman Jake Wald (Alexandria, VA/TC Williams) and Crowder each had RBI singles in the inning.
The Vikings closed-out the scoring by plating one run in the ninth.
Junior pitcher Adam Belicic (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) shut down the Cleveland State offense. Belicic pitched eight innings, allowing only four hits and one run, while striking out nine Vikings' batters. The win evens Belicic's record to 3-3 for the season.
The win improves the Colonials record to 14-10, while Cleveland State drops to 3-12.
The Colonials return to action Tuesday when they travel to Richmond to take on the Spiders at 2:30 p.m.
