The Colonials Extend Winning Streak to Six Games
Washington, DC- The George Washington baseball team beat Georgetown University 14-0 to extend their winning streak to six games at Georgetown University Stadium.
The Colonials' offense collected sixteen hits, including 11 in the first three innings, and GW used eight Georgetown errors to blow-out the Hoyas.
Redshirt freshman Travis Crowder (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) started the Colonials in the first inning with a single to center field. Seniors Ryan Dacey (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) and Matt Walker (Gibsonia, PA/South Carolina), and sophomore Mike Bassett (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) followed Crowder with consecutive singles to give GW a 3-0 lead.
GW extended their lead to 7-0 by scoring four runs in the second inning. Again, Crowder started the inning with a single to center field, with freshman Tony Dokoupil (Pau Pau, WV/Severna Park), senior Ryan Hauseman (Pottstown, PA/The Hill School) and Dacey adding RBI singles to extend GW's lead.
Junior Dan Rouhier (McLean, VA/St.Albans) and Bassett each had homeruns in the game. Rouhier hit a solo homerun in the fourth inning, and Bassett hit his team leading sixth homerun in the ninth inning.
Redshirt junior Ron Christie (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown South) earned his first victory of the season. Recovering from arm surgery, Christie made his first start in two years and pitched six strong innings, allowing no runs and striking out two Hoyas' batters. The win improves his record to 1-0 for the season.
For the day, the Colonials were led by Hauseman's three hits and three RBI's , and Bassett's four RBI's. Crowder and Dacey added 2 and 4 hits, respectively.
GW returns to the diamond this Friday at Bacroft Park in Arlington, VA to take on C.W. Post University at 2:30 p.m.
