Colonials Flying High, Beat Dayton 95-90

WASHINGTON (AP) - SirValiant Brown scores 33 points as George Washington won its fifth straight contest, 95-90 over Dayton in a game between the top two teams in the west division of the Atlantic 10 on Wednesday.
The second-place Colonials (11-11, 5-4) led 60-45 with 13:20 left in the game before first-place Dayton (17-5, 7-3) tied the game at 72 with a basket by Brooks Hall with 7:46 left. But Brown, after being fouled by Dayton's Nate Green on a 3-point try, hit three free throws to give GW a 75-72 lead with 7:30 left. GW never trailed the rest of the way.
Brown entered the game as the nation's top scorer at 25 points an outing.
The Colonials, with five straight wins in the conference, have never lost at home to Dayton in five tries. The Fliers lost despite a 42-28 advantage on the boards, with 24 offensive rebounds.
GW's Chris Monroe had 16 of his 20 points in the second half. Teammate Mike King came off the bench for 13 points and Bernard Barrow, who leads the conference in assists per game, added 11 points and seven assists.
Dayton's David Morris, who played at St. Vincent Pallotti High in nearby Laurel, Md., had a career-high 19 points for the Flyers off the bench. Mark Ashman had 18 points and Green, a prep teammate of Morris, had a career-high 17 points for Dayton.
Tony Stanley, who entered the game as Dayton's top scorer, missed all five of his shots from the field in the second half and fouled out with 13 points. Stanley, from nearby Arlington, Va., had 10 of his points in the first half.
