On the shift in momentum
"It actually started in the last 3 minutes of the first half. We lost
our composure, and when we did that, we lost all our execution, so that
was kinda the ballgame."
"The one area I was most disappointed in was the defensive end. I thought we became very soft; we didn't rebound the basketball; we became very timid. Some of it was because of the officiating. I guess we've got to get used to it. My guys kept complaining, Coach, we can't touch them; we can't do anything.' And that got us out of sync. With the young kids, that's a distraction that we just couldn't handle tonight."
GW Coach Tom Penders:
"It was a funny game because of all the whistles and the parade to the foul line. It's hard to play as sharp as I thought we playedonly 6 turnoversit was excellent for that kind of ballgame.
"It was a team-type win. I like the distribution of scoring. I like the performance of our freshmen. There are a lot of positives out there for an opening night. And we faced adversity. It was tough to lose Val."
"In our first two exhibition games, we were playing against teams that had pretty good post people. This was a team with better guards, so our post guys weren't overmatched. I felt that Pat (Ngongba), Antxon (Iturbe), and Albert (Roma) did a really nice job; Jaason Smith and Marquin Chandler did a nice job of neutralizing their front court. Whereas in the exhibition games, each team we played had a couple of big guys that if you got them anywhere near the basket they scored."
"We had no film on A&M. We had absolutely no idea how they were going to attack us. Sso we had to make a lot of adjustments in the first half and at halftime because they were spreading us out, and looking to run back doors and sucker plays the entire first half. And we finally got a little patience with our defense and tried to grind out a win and not try to knock em out."
