With the five additions joining the team, coach Walter has added depth to a team that will see seven seniors depart after the 2001 season.
The five student-athletes are:
Joseph Michalski, C, 6-3, 200, R-R, Ellicott City, MD/Mt. Hebron H.S.
"Joe is the catch and throw guy we wanted for our program. He comes from an outstanding family and is an excellent student. He possesses many outstanding personal qualities that lead us to believe he will be the leader the program has been looking for. Joe has above average arm strength, knowledge of handling pitchers and will hit for average. We are very excited about having Joe at GW," Walter said.
Justin Orenduff, RHP, 6-4, 195, Chesapeake, VA/Western Branch H.S.
"Justin pitches in the upper 80's with good run on his fastball and shows an above average slider and change-up. His frame is one that will allow him to get bigger as he grows and he will one day pitch in the 90's. Justin's immediate impact on the mound is just what we were looking for in the early signing period. He is a great addition to our pitching staff." Walter said.
Anthony Raglani, OF, 6-1, 175, L-L, Indiana, PA/Indiana H.S.
"Anthony is a great addition to our early signing period. He is an above average runner with outstanding baseball instincts. He will hit for power and average at this level. We expect Anthony to step into our program and play in the outfield immediately." Walter said.
Avi Rasowsky, LHP, 6-1, 165, Delmar, NY/Bethlehem H.S.
"We are very pleased Avi chose GW. He is an outstanding student-athlete, who plays three sports in high school (cross country, swimming and baseball). Avi is a high quality left-handed pitcher who will make an immediate impact on our staff. Avi has three plus pitches and outstanding command. In past summers, Avi has pitched for the Jewish National Team, which was coached by LSU head coach Skip Bertman. He had outstanding numbers for the team including 125 strikeouts in 120 innings with only 15 walks." Walter said.
Ryan Roberson, IF/OF, 6-5, 200, R-R, Silver Spring, MD/Blake H.S.
"Ryan is the guy who will sit in the middle of our lineup for years to come. Ryan's skills are just what GW looks for when we go out to look for a hitter that can play a few positions. Ryan will hit for above-average power and be able to play some third base, first base and outfield. He brings an outstanding work ethic and tons of baseball potential." Walter said.
GW baseball posted a school-record 37 victories and tied for first in the Atlantic 10 Conference West Division last season. The team opens the 2001 season on Friday, February 16 with a three-game series at UNC Wilmington.
