WASHINGTON -Â GW men's basketball's 10th newcomer for the 2026-27 season was announced by head coach Chris Caputo on Monday in the form of first-year Deng Manyang from Australia.
"Deng is one of the best young players in all of Australia," Caputo said. "His success in the NBL going against grown men has given him a great foundation for his future experiences in college basketball. Several professional basketball players in Australia spoke very highly about his potential going forward."
Just 18 years old and hailing from Adelaide, Manyang is regarded as one of the top prospects in the country and signed a developmental contract with the NBL's Adelaide 36ers this past year. He primarily played with the Central District Lions in NBL1, the 6'7" forward averaged 18.2 ppg, 8.8 rpg and 1.7 rpg in nine games while shooting 62% from the floor.
His ascension began with the Central District Lions in 2024, leading the team to the U18 Club Championship before making his NBL1 debut in 2025 when he scored 9.8 ppg and 4.9 rpg before earning the developmental role.
Manyang's family is of South Sudanese heritage that resettled to a Kenyan refugee camp in Australia before he was born. His eldest brother Magok also is a member of the 36ers.
2026-27 Season Tickets for GW men's basketball are on sale now, starting as low as $125. The Revolutionaries are coming off back-to-back postseason appearances and the program's first postseason win in nine years at Utah Valley in the opening round of the NIT.
