Having won four of its last five matches, the George Washington tennis team looks to ride its hot streak into this week's trio of contests. GW first travels to Norfolk State on Monday for a 10:00 a.m. match against the Spartans, before heading to Kingston, R.I., for matchups with New Haven (Friday at 12:00 p.m.) and the host Rams (Saturday at 11:00 a.m.).
Â
Norfolk State enters the week with a 12-9 record, having cruised to a 6-1 win over South Carolina State on Saturday. The Spartans are 4-1 in MEAC action this season, with their lone conference loss coming to Morgan State on March 28. Sabina Iurea and Yana Klimchuk lead the program with an outstanding 10-1 mark in singles action this year. Iurea's wins have been spread out across the second, fourth, fifth and sixth flights, while Klimchuk has victories in flights one, three, four and six. The doubles duo of Klimchuk and Yuliya Yurkova leads the program at 7-2 this spring.
Â
New Haven sits at 8-5 on the year following consecutive 5-2 victories of Chicago State and Adelphi last week. The Chargers, who joined the Division I ranks this year as members of the Northeast Conference, had their match with Seton Hall canceled last Thursday but will face FDU this Tuesday prior to battling GW this weekend. New Haven is coming off a 2025 spring season that saw the program finish 15-2 overall, advancing to the D-II National Championship. The Chargers ultimately fell, 4-0, to St. Thomas Aquinas, after starting the regular season a perfect 13-0.
Â
Rhode Island holds a 10-8 record to start the week, coming off a 4-2 loss to Richmond on Saturday. The Rams will host Bryant on Thursday prior to welcoming GW to Kingston this weekend. Rhody holds a 1-2 mark in A-10 matches this year, defeating Saint Joseph's, 4-0, but falling to Davidson (4-3) and the Spiders both in early April. URI is led by Kajsa Helgesen, who holds a 10-4 record in singles this year. She's currently 4-2 in the fourth flight and 6-5 in fifth singles. The duos of Nikki Fernando and Helgesen, along with Grace Darcy and Anastasia Petterson, both hold 10-6 marks in doubles this season.
