WASHINGTON – The George Washington tennis team heads south to Hilton Head this week for spring break, taking part in three matches over a four-day span. The Revolutionaries are scheduled to face George Mason on Monday (9:00 a.m.), Fordham on Wednesday (9:30 a.m.) and NC Central on Thursday (12:00 p.m.).
George Mason is off to a solid start this season, holding a 4-2 record through the team's first six matches. Monday's matchup with GW will be the Patriots' first conference match of the season, having tallied wins against Mary Washington, Delaware State, Coppin State and Rider thus far.
Fordham holds a 4-8 record as of Sunday morning, but will battle Army on Sunday afternoon prior to heading to South Carolina. The Rams have wins over UIC, Temple, Drexel and Hofstra thus far, coming off a 6-1 win over the Pride on Friday afternoon. Fordham has four losses to power four conference opponents this season, playing a tough schedule leading into A-10 action.
NC Central is 2-6 on the year, with three losses to ranked teams, including 11th-ranked NC State, eighth-ranked Duke and third-ranked North Carolina. Prior to battling GW on Thursday, NC Central will take on George Mason on Tuesday, only playing two matches while in Hilton Head. The Eagles are led by Mariana Zottoli, who has three wins in singles action this spring.
