Softball Beats SLU; Wins First A-10 Series of 2026

GW softball handled Saint Louis on Sunday in a 6-2 win. The win gave GW a 2-1 series win over the Billikens in its first A-10 series of 2026. GW improved to 11-6 overall as it won its sixth game in its last eight tries.Â
GW's offense was humming early again Sunday as the Revolutionaries took an early first-inning lead. Cece Smith, who also made the start for GW in the circle, opened the scoring with an RBI single, followed by Paige Hayward and Emi Todoroki moving the line and picking up RBI to make it 3-0 GW in the first.
Kaylee Layfield then added to the home side's lead in the bottom of the second with her first home of the season, a two-run blast to put GW up 5-0.
The Billikens got two back in the fifth as Karsen Jany drove in two on a double, but that's the closest the visitors would get. Todoroki brought the lead back up to four with a sac fly in the fifth inning as GW cruised to the 6-2 win.
Smith had another quality performance pitching with seven strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work. She was replaced by Chloe Greene in the seventh, who finished the seventh without allowing a run.
GW is back for five games at the GW Softball Field next week, starting with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch on Tuesday vs. UMass Lowell.
