WILMINGTON, N.C. – GW softball finished opening weekend at the UNCW Tournament on Sunday with a 7-3 victory over Kennesaw State. GW wrapped the weekend at 2-2 with a pair of wins over Kennesaw State, and losses to UNCW and Appalachian State.

GW had the line moving early in the rematch vs. the Owls. The Revolutionaries loaded the bases in the first and scored four runs, scoring first on an Emi Todoroki walk before Sydney Hogue was hit by a pitch to go up 2-0. Emma Fales capped GW's early output by reaching on an Owls' error which scored two.

Kennesaw State closed the gap to 4-3 with runs in the second and third, but another costly Owls' defensive error in the fourth resulted in a three-run, little-league home run for Reese Ferrel, who capped off her impressive opening weekend batting 5-9 with two doubles, two RBI and a 1.334 OPS.

GW's offense was well-spread on Sunday, as all seven runs were scored by different players and six Revolutionaries tallied hits. Todoroki and Paige Hayward, in the heart of GW's order, reached three times apiece with a combined three hits and three walks.

Chloe Greene made her second start of the season and earned the win after throwing 4.0 innings and giving up two earned runs. Sophia Torreso earned the save after throwing a hitless final 3.0.

The Revolutionaries return to action at the Coach Cooke Memorial Tournament, Feb. 20-22 in Rock Hill, S.C., where GW will face Presbyterian, Mount St. Mary's and the host team, Winthrop.
