ROCK HILL, S.C. – GW softball lost in both games Friday at the Coach Cooke Memorial Tournament. The Revolutionaries fell by a final of 5-3 to Presbyterian, before being downed by the host Winthrop, 4-3. GW fell to 2-4 on the season with three games remaining this weekend in South Carolina.

Paige Hayward was a high note for GW as she kept her bat hot, combining for three hits and three RBI in Friday's games. Hayward was the first to score in game one vs. Presbyterian, as she laced a two-RBI double in the third to put GW ahead 2-0.

The lead didn't hold long though as a lengthy two-out rally in the fourth inning turned the game in favor of Presbyterian. After their first two batters were retired, six consecutive Blue Hose reached safely, four of whom scored, which was enough to do-in GW in the eventual two-run loss.

Ashley Corpuz had her first multi-hit game of the year in game one, finishing 2-3 with an RBI and one walk. Rookies Jazlene Ramos and Reese Ferrel each got aboard multiple times at the top of the order. Ramos led off and was 1-3 with a walk and one run scored, while Ferrel drew three walks in four plate appearances and scored a run.

Chloe Greene made the start for GW against Presbyterian and allowed all five runs. Emma Fales replaced Greene to start the sixth and delivered a scoreless 2.0.

Game two looked promising for the Buff & Blue, up 3-0 for much of the way after a Hayward first inning RBI single and a Cadence Gilliland 2-RBI single in the third inning. The home side went on to rally late, fighting one across in the seventh before completing the comeback with a three-run seventh.

Cece Smith went a scoreless 6.0 in the start with eight strikeouts and just one walk. Only one run was credited against Smith which came unearned after a GW error in the sixth.

GW is back for another two games in Rock Hill tomorrow as the Revolutionaries take on Mount St. Mary's at 10:00 a.m., before getting another chance to face Presbyterian at 12:30 p.m.
