WASHINGTON – After both of its matches were postponed last week due to inclement weather, the George Washington tennis team returns to the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center (SETLC) this week for two non-conference contests. The Revolutionaries welcome Coppin State on Thursday, then host Liberty on Friday. Both matches are slated to begin at 11:00 a.m.
Coppin State enters the first week of February having not played since October 18th, the end of the program's fall season. The Eagles are coming off a 3-13 campaign last spring, finishing with wins against Goucher, Virginia State and Harford Community College. Ebonye Jones is in her eighth season at the helm of the program, having taken over both the Eagles' men's and women's programs in 2018.
Liberty will face GW this Friday, holding a 3-1 record, with its lone loss coming against fourth-ranked Auburn on Jan. 18. The Flames hold wins over Western Carolina, Bellarmine and Delaware to open the season and will stay in the DMV region on Saturday to face Navy in Annapolis. Liberty is led by Dash Connell, who's in his second season at the helm of the program. Connell is a decorated coach at the JUCO level, leading Tyler Junior College to 11 national championships, including six with the women's team and five with the men.
Fans are encouraged to watch both matches live at SETLC in Southeast DC, with admission free for all spectators. Complete results for both matches will be available on GWsports.com as well.
