CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The George Washington baseball team dropped a midweek matchup at Virginia on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Cavaliers, 11-0. GW moves to 1-6 on the season.
Juniors Robbie Lavey and Conlon Walker accounted for the Revolutionaries' two hits on the day. Lavey recorded an infield single to the shortstop in the top of the third, while Walker got on base via a single up the middle in the top of the fourth.
Virginia used seven runs in the first inning to jump on top early. The GW Revs weathered the storm and held the Cavaliers scoreless over the second and third frames. UVA notched one run in the third, one in the sixth and two in the seventh to invoke the mercy rule, ending the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Nathan Murphy was charged with the loss in his first start of the season. Aidan Carey, Colin Lebel and Reese Crochet each had scoreless outings in relief out of GW's bullpen.
The Buff & Blue look to get back on track Friday, welcoming Saint Peter's to Tucker Field for the start of a three-game series over the weekend. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
