WASHINGTON - Silver Waves Media has announced its seventh annual list of the 100 Most Impactful Mid-Major Assistant Coaches and GMs featuring George Washington assistant coaches Matt Colpoys and Dwayne Lee. The annual recognition has seen numerous honorees go on to be Division I Head Coaches and is viewed as an industry standard for excellence.
Colpoys is in his second year as an assistant coach for the Revolutionaries, serving as the program's co-offensive coordinator. Under his watch this year, GW is on pace to break the school record for scoring, currently 1.8 ppg higher than the old mark of 85.9 ppg set in 1952-53.
Colpoys joined GW as the Director of Recruiting in 2022 and has been instrumental in the team's offensive success since his arrival. The Buff & Blue have posted an adjusted offensive efficiency greater than 1.07 points per possession each of his three years after having not done so since 2016-17.
Lee is in his fourth year as an assistant in Foggy Bottom and serves as the team's defensive coordinator. GW has steadily climbed the defensive ranks during his tenure, highlighted by ranking among the top-100 nationally in steals per game, 3-point defense, scoring defense, turnovers forced per game and field goal percentage defense in 2024-25. Analytically, the Buff & Blue tallied their best defensive efficiency per KenPom since 2015-16 under Lee's watch.
Lee has also had a hand in the development of GW's guards, including First Team All-Conference honoree James Bishop IV, A-10 Rookie of the Year Maximus Edwards and Preseason All-Conference selections Trey Autry and Christian Jones.
