WASHINGTON – GW swimming & diving's Talya Erdogan and Andres Brooks were named the Atlantic 10's Rookies of the Week, the conference announced. The awards come following GW's dual meets vs. Towson and Georgetown.
For Brooks, it's already his fourth A-10 Rookie of the Week honor as the newcomer from Austin, Texas, continued his standout first year in Foggy Bottom. Brooks was named the conference's top rookie last week after a weekend full of high finishes, which included a win in the 200-yard fly vs. Towson (1:46.55). Brooks finished in the top-three on five occasions across the two dual meets, which also included second-place results in the 200-yard fly (48.79 vs. Towson) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:28.75 vs. Georgetown), along with third-place finishes in the 200-yard free relays in both dual meets (1:22.87 vs. Georgetown; 1:24.20 vs. Towson).
Erdogan captured her second A-10 weekly rookie honor as the promising young distance swimmer also captured five top-three finishes over the weekend. Erdogan submitted second-place swims in both 500-yard freestyles (4:51.75 vs. Towson; 4:55.55 vs. Georgetown) and in the lone 1,650-yard free of the weekend (16:41.09 vs. Towson). Bolstering her quality dual meets, the Antalya, Türkiye native finished third in the 200-yard free (1:52.67) and in the 200-yard free relay (1:35.93), both vs. Georgetown.
GW's rookies are preparing for their first go-around at the Atlantic 10 Championships, hosted at the Hampton Aquaplex in Hampton, Va., in less than one month (Feb. 18-21). GW has one final dual meet to prepare before then on Jan. 31 when the Revolutionaries visit Penn State.
