PITTSBURGH - GW men's basketball has received its highest A-10 preseason ranking in 10 years, projected to finish fourth this season in a poll of the league's head coaches and media. The Revolutionaries also tied for a league-high with four players - Rafael Castro, Tre Dinkins III, Trey Autry and Christian Jones - named to preseason All-Conference teams.
George Washington's fourth-place preseason projection matches the highest for the program since prior to the 2015-16 season that ended in an NIT Championship. VCU was projected to finish first by a single point ahead of Saint Louis with each team garnering 11 first-place votes. Dayton was picked to finish third with three first-place votes with fifth-place Loyola Chicago garnering the final two first-place picks.
Redshirt senior Rafael Castro landed on the league's Preseason All-Conference First Team, GW's second such honor in three years (James Bishop IV, 2023-24). Castro also earned a spot on the All-Defensive team, duplicating his feat he set at the end of last year.
The Providence transfer made an immediate impression in year one with GW, leading the team in scoring, rebounding and blocks while ranking third nationally in field goal percentage and top-35 in the NCAA in total rebounds, rebounds per game and offensive rebounding. He enters the season having reached double digits in 19 straight games and with 13 double-doubles under his belt.
Duquesne transfer Tre Dinkins III earned a spot on the All-Conference Second Team following his standout year with the Dukes last season. Dinkins led the Dukes in scoring and 3-pointers and posted 100 assists on the season, recording 17 straight double-figure games to end the season. In three years at the D-I level, Dinkins has scored 1,081 points in 94 games (11.5 ppg).
Two returners from last year's team - Trey Autry and Christian Jones - were honored on the Preseason All-Conference Third Team. Autry took a huge leap in production by nearly doubling his scoring output from a year before at 10.4 ppg. In two years donning the Buff & Blue, Autry has canned 103 3s and averaged 8.0 ppg. He enters the season ranked among GW's career leaders in 3-point percentage (11th) and free throw percentage (15th).
Jones adds the preseason accolade to his All-Rookie selection a year ago. In 34 games, Jones averaged 8.7 ppg and led the team in assists (89) and steals (57) becoming one of just five first-years nationally with 2.6 apg and 1.7 spg. He was twice named A-10 Rookie of the Week and posted 14 double-digit efforts a year ago.
Various ticketing options are available for GW fans for the upcoming campaign, highlighted by a new Flex Pack featuring 10 ticket vouchers good for any regular season home game, plus the can't miss exhibition vs Georgetown on Saturday, October 18 for just $180. Non-conference single-game tickets are also now on sale.
