WASHINGTON - The George Washington University swimming & diving teams have announced Caroline Pape as the next assistant coach of the programs. Pape, a former Division I swimmer at Georgia Tech, comes to GW after a successful collegiate career and with three years of coaching experience.
"I'm excited to bring Caroline into the GW swimming and diving staff," said Head Coach Chico Rego. "I've known her for years, and as a student-athlete, she was incredibly dedicated and proactive – traits that fueled her success in the pool."
Pape swam four seasons for the Yellow Jackets from 2021-2025, competing primarily in short freestyle and butterfly events. Pape and Rego met at Georgia Tech in 2021 – Pape as a freshman swimmer and Rego as Associate Head Coach. Pape graduated this past spring with an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering with a minor in Health & Medical Sciences.
"Caroline will bring a total understanding of our training methods, as she was someone who trained under those systems," Rego continued. "I'm looking forward to seeing her grow as a coach and I'm thrilled to have her onboard."
"First, I would like to extend a thank you to Chico Rego and George Washington for giving me this opportunity," said Pape. "Chico and staff have done an amazing job building the program, and I look forward to helping them and the student-athletes succeed in meeting goals and being the best we can be. I cannot wait to be in DC and see what the future holds! Go Revolutionaries!"
Pape began her coaching career in 2022 as Assistant Coach at Swim Atlanta, a premier youth swim club. There, Pape worked to develop youth ages 6-18, teaching stroke, technique and the fundamentals of swimming. Pape designed training programs and introduced the strategies of goal making, team building and personal growth to help foster development.
Additionally, Pape served as Head Director for the Shark Pups Program at Garden Hills Pool in Atlanta for one summer, where she implemented a learn-to-swim program for children ages 4-8.
A member of Georgia Tech's Student-Athlete Advisory Board, Pape also played a key role in fostering professional development opportunities for her peers and strengthening the relationships between athletes and administration.
Pape is originally from Winston-Salem, N.C. She attended Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Ky., and competed for Lakeside Swim Team before making her way to Georgia Tech in Atlanta.
