GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman – The George Washington women's basketball team will battle Miami and Charlotte this fall in the Cayman Islands Classic, it was announced today by Caymax Sports Ltd.
"GW is thrilled to compete in the Cayman Islands Classic this fall," said Head Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan earlier this summer. "This year's field is full of competitive teams from top to bottom that will give us a real test before entering our conference schedule. Going to an event like this also gives our players an opportunity to be immersed in another culture, while also strengthening the relationships and bonds within our program by spending the Thanksgiving holiday together."
The eight-team field will be broken into two divisions, the Cayman Brac and the Little Cayman. The Revolutionaries, along with the Hurricanes, the 49ers and Oklahoma State, will compete in the Little Cayman Division, while Florida, Georgia Tech, Memphis and St. John's make up the Cayman Brac.
GW will battle Miami on day one of the event, playing as the road team at 1:30 p.m. EST on Nov. 28. The GW Revs clash with the 49ers on Nov. 29, also tipping at 1:30 p.m. Broadcast information for the classic has yet to be announced. All games will be held at John Gray Gymnasium in George Town, Grand Cayman.
GW's matchup with Miami will be the second meeting between the programs all-time. The two teams met in 2010 as part of the Miami Holiday Classic held on the Hurricanes' campus in Coral Gables. The Revolutionaries will face Charlotte for the 10th time in program history, with the first eight coming while the 49ers were members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The most recent matchup between the clubs was two years ago at the Puerto Rico Shootout during the 2023-24 season.
Travel packages for the event are now on sale, with all-tournament and booster passes also available for purchase. For more details, visit caymanislandsclassic.com.
