The Revolutionaries even the season series after falling to the Tigers in February
TOWSON, Md. - GW softball defeated Towson by a final score of 5-1 on Wednesday, snapping a three-game losing streak. The Revolutionaries improved to 24-14 overall in the penultimate non-conference game of 2025.Â
GW was looking to even the score against Towson after losing 20-16 on Feb. 22 at the UNCG Invitational. GW hurler Anna Reed got the start in her first look at the Tigers, and was in command all game for GW in her 12th win of 2025. Reed sat down nine Tigers on strikes and walked just one in her fifth complete game of the season.Â
The Revolutionaries' offense turned it up a notch after struggling last weekend. GW got it done without an extra-base hit, but with nine total knocks, two walks and three Tigers' errors. The Buff & Blue got on the board first in the third inning, when Kaylee Layfield drove a single up the middle to score Cadence Gilliland. Towson responded in the bottom of the third, notching the Tigers only run off Reed on an RBI single.Â
In the fifth, Layfield came through again with another two RBI on a single to give GW a 3-1 edge. Then building on the lead again in the sixth, Cadence Gilliland and Allison Heffley each helped secure the win with RBI singles, their eighth and 21st RBI of the season, respectively.Â
Layfield finished 3-4 with a game-high three RBI - her first career game with three RBI or more. Ashley Corpuz finished 2-4, joining Layfield as the only Revolutionaries with multi-hit games.
GW returns home this weekend to host the first-place Fordham Rams for a three-game series at the GW Softball Field on Saturday (12 p.m. doubleheader) and Sunday (12 p.m.). All three games will be streamed on ESPN+.
