ST. LOUIS - GW softball dropped the series finale at Saint Louis, 3-0, on Monday afternoon. The Revolutionaries fell to 23-14 overall and 9-5 in the A-10 after being held scoreless in three consecutive losses to the Billikens.
The finale featured another battle between GW starter Anna Reed and SLU starter Taylor Hochman. Despite allowing a hit in each of her four innings pitched, Reed worked around high-pressure situations and kept SLU off the board, making way for Cece Smith to start the fifth. Hochman went the distance to claim her second win of the series, while the loss went to Smith.
The game entered the bottom of the seventh still tied at 0-0, but Abby Mallo's third home run of the series clinched the sweep for SLU.
GW struggled again to string together offense, leaving six runners stranded on base throughout the game. Carolyn Skotz finished 1-2 with a hit in her fourth straight game, while Paige Hayward had GW's lone extra-base hit on her two-out double in the sixth. GW was outhit 20-9 in the series.
Up next for GW is a trip to Towson, Md., on Wednesday and a chance to even the season series against Towson. First pitch between the Revolutionaries and Tigers is set for 3:00 p.m., and the game will be streamed on FloSports.Â
