WASHINGTON - A two-run fifth inning was all it took for GW softball on Tuesday to capture a 2-0 victory vs. Georgetown. The win moved GW to 28-17 overall, including an incredible 17-2 mark on its home field.Â
The final non-conference battle of the year brought the Hoyas over just a few blocks to GW's Mount Vernon Campus. GW was looking to get back in the green after being swept at Saint Joseph's over the weekend, and the Revolutionaries did just that behind an excellent start from starting pitcher Anna Reed.
Reed collected her team-best 14th win of the season while she limited Georgetown to just four hits and one walk. The graduate transfer added six strikeouts to her career total which is now well over 300.
GW was spraying the ball all around the field, but it took until the fifth inning to score off Georgetown's Big East pitchers and defense. Madi Mays came up with GW's first RBI with two outs and Ashley Corpuz on third, poking a single into left field. Three batters and two GW walks later, Paige Hayward got GW on the board again with help from a Hoya fielding error to make it 2-0.
GW got the job done with six walks and five hits, expecting Coach Schoonmaker's hard-out approach well on Tuesday.
Up next for GW is the final home series of the regular season when Rhode Island visits for a three-game set on Saturday (12:00 p.m doubleheader) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.). Saturday will serve as the program's Senior Day, and fans are encouraged to arrive early before game one for a ceremony to honor GW's seven seniors and graduate students.
