PHILADELPHIA - GW softball was swept in Friday's doubleheader at Saint Joseph's, falling 6-0 in game one and 4-2 in game two. The Revolutionaries dropped to 27-16 overall, including 12-7 in A-10 play, ahead of tomorrow's series finale.
GW 0, SJU 6
The Revolutionaries entered play in Philadelphia winners of their last four, but Saint Joseph's had the recipe to end GW's hot streak, besting the Buff & Blue, 6-0, in game one.
GW had limited success offensively in game one, collecting just five hits and one walk, while leaving seven runners on base. Cadence Gilliland highlighted the game offensively for the Buff & Blue with GW's only multi-hit game in her 2-3 performance. Allison Heffley was the only other Revolutionary to reach base multiple times, finishing 1-3 with GW's only walk.
Anna Reed was in the circle and lasted 3.1 innings against the Hawks. Reed punched out one as SJU managed four earned runs off GW's ace. Sophia Torreso was used to finish out the last 2.2 innings, not able to keep a clean sheet with two earned runs scored against.
GW 2, SJU 4
The Revolutionaries held a one-run lead late in game two, but a three-run Hawks home run in the fifth swung the tides back towards the home team for a 4-2 win.
The Hawks went ahead early after winning game one, plating their first run off GW starter Cece Smith in the first inning on a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.
GW scratched their way back and worked in two runs to take the lead in the fourth inning. First, Emi Todoroki scored on a Carolyn Skotz single, before Katie Hendrickson (pinch running for Madi Mays) came around to make it 2-1 on a Daniella Lew RBI groundout.
The teams finished tied with four hits aside, but none bigger than Sarah Cancila's three-run shot in the fifth, which turned a 2-1 GW lead into a 4-2 deficit that the visitors were not able to recover from in the later innings.
