PHILADELPHIA - GW softball was defeated by Saint Joseph's on Saturday, 1-0. The Revolutionaries fell to 27-17 overall and a 12-8 mark in the A-10 after dropping all three games in Philadelphia this weekend.
The finale was a pitchers' duel through and through, as GW's Anna Reed and Chloe Greene battled against Saint Joseph's Taylor Trowbridge. Reed made the start for GW but was pulled after just 2.2 innings for Greene, who punched out a GW career-best eight batters with just one hit allowed over 3.1 innings.
GW's offense was silenced again by the Hawks' ace Trowbridge, as the Revolutionaries collected just one hit (an Ashley Corpuz sixth-inning double) in the contest. GW had just two baserunners in the game, as Carolyn Skotz also reached on an error in the third. Trowbridge closed the weekend with two-complete game shutouts, and just six hits allowed to GW over 14.0 IP.
GW put the ball in play for most of the game, striking out just three times as a team, but the Hawks collected 11 groundouts and five flyouts to keep the Buff & Blue bats quiet.
The Revolutionaries return to Washington, D.C. this week for the final four regular-season home games at the GW Softball Field. GW will host Georgetown for a midweek clash on Tuesday (2:00 p.m.), before welcoming Rhode Island on Saturday (12:00 p.m. doubleheader) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.) for a three-game set.
