WASHINGTON - Friday night softball on the Vern was a first for the GW softball team, playing in its inaugural night game at home. However, the game didn't go the Revolutionaries' way as GW was taken down in a narrow contest, 3-2.
The Revolutionaries got on the board first, scoring both their runs in the bottom of the first inning. GW sent seven to bat in the first inning, which included a Paige Hayward RBI fielder's choice and a Madi Mays RBI double.
The Jaspers from Manhattan came to fight and hit the ball well on Friday night, totaling nine hits to GW's six. Manhattan scored each of their runs on RBI singles, cutting the lead to 2-1 in the second, before tying the game at 2-2 in the third and scoring the game-winning run in the fifth.
Anna Reed took the loss for GW and moved to 5-3, while Karissa Spring earned her first win for the Jaspers.
GW returns for two games at the GW Invitational tomorrow, getting a rematch against Manhattan at 2:30 p.m. before going up against UAlbany at 5:00 p.m. The full GW Invitational schedule can be found here.Â
