WASHINGTON – With just six matches left on the calendar, the George Washington tennis team is prepped for a pivotal week in the Atlantic 10. The Revolutionaries are set to host Massachusetts on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. and then welcome Rhode Island on Saturday at 12:45 p.m.
Riding a two-match winning streak, GW hosts the Minutewomen for the final time as conference foes this Wednesday. UMass holds a 5-5 overall record with victories over Siena, Merrimack, Holy Cross, Fairfield and Stonehill. Wednesday's matchup will be UMass' first A-10 contest of the season, the first of five for the team in the final four weeks of the season. Trinity Callinescu and Martina Pavissich lead the program with a 4-2 mark in singles play, while the duo of Belle Jonglertrakul and Mariana Campino lead the team with a 3-1 record in doubles.
Rhode Island, who's off to a scorching 11-2 start this spring, rides a three-match winning streak into Saturday's meeting with the Revolutionaries. Similar to UMass, Rhody has yet to play an A-10 match as well, scheduling five over the final month of play. Katharina Spieth is 8-1 this season in first singles, while Nikki Fernando is a perfect 10-0 in the third flight. The pair of Grace Darcy and Anastasia Petterson is 9-3 in second doubles to lead the team thus far.
Both matches this week will be played at the Southeast Tennis & Learning Center in Southeast DC. Following this week, the Buff & Blue will have just one home match remaining on the calendar, a Senior Day matchup with Davidson on April 11. A start time for that match is still TBA.
