COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The George Washington University softball team dropped both games on Friday at the Texas A&M Invitational. The Revolutionaries dropped game one to Idaho State, 3-1, before being undone by No. 5 Texas A&M, 12-0.
GW 1, Idaho State 3
GW took an early lead against Idaho State when Ashley Corpuz hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season in the second at-bat of the game, but the Buff & Blue let the lead slip in the fourth and weren't able to get back on top, falling 3-1.Â
Corpuz's blast was her 16th RBI of the season, but it was one of just three hits that GW mustered. On the other side, Idaho State was held to five hits in the contest by a combined effort from Cece Smith and Chloe Greene.
The Bengals went ahead in the fourth, scoring on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, and upped their lead to 3-1 in the fifth, scoring on a GW fielding error.  Â
Smith went 4.1 innings and was charged with two earned runs and the loss, moving to 3-2 on the season. Chloe Greene was inserted to finish the contest and gave up one run, unearned.Â
GW 0, No. 5 Texas A&M 12
Facing their highest-ranked opponent in the Chrissy Schoonmaker era, the Revolutionaries gave the No. 5 Texas A&M Aggies their best shot on Friday night, but the home Maroon lived up to their top-five ranking to down the Buff & Blue, 12-0, in five innings.
The Revolutionaries managed to keep the game close for three innings, trailing just 2-0 into the fourth, but a 10-run fourth inning for the Aggies blew the game open. Texas A&M used the long ball well against GW, launching three home runs in the game and scoring eight of its 12 runs on those swings.Â
Allison Heffley, going up against her father's team (Texas A&M Assistant Coach Russ Heffley), was the only Revolutionary to reach base, doing so in the first inning after taking a pitch off the arm. GW was held without a hit offensively as the Aggies' starting pitcher, Sydney Lessentine, punched out 11 in her complete-game shutout.Â

GW is back on the field tomorrow for consecutive games to finish out the Texas A&M Invitational. First, the Revolutionaries will battle Princeton at 12:30 p.m. (ET), before lacing back up to play Texas State at 3:00 p.m.
