WASHINGTON - GW softball's first-year infielder Kaylee Layfield was selected by the A-10 as its week-three Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Layfield led GW with a .556 batting average and a perfect week on her way to claiming the award.Â
Layfield's career week included an OPS north of 1.200 (1.267) as she excelled offensively. Overall, she was 10-18 at the plate with two doubles, eight RBI and three runs scored. Layfield also drew two free bases last week, once via a walk and the other after being hit by a pitch. The rookie was a standout in GW's games vs. Coppin State and Iona, where she hit a combined 6-6, with six RBI, one double and two runs scored.
Bolstering Layfield's Player of the Week selection was her perfect defensive week. Playing at second base, Layfield converted on all 15 of her chances, collecting 10 putouts and adding five assists.
Adding further to her resume, Layfield stole first base of her career in GW's narrow 2-1 victory over UNCG.
Layfield will look to stay hot this coming week when GW travels to College Station, Texas, for four games at the Texas A&M Invitational. GW opens its stay on Friday, facing off against Idaho State at 3:00 p.m.
