Men's Basketball Topped in Final Minutes at La Salle, 73-67
2/1/2025 5:55:00 PM | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA - Despite leading for more than 33 minutes on the road on Saturday afternoon, GW men's basketball was unable to put La Salle away and ultimately paid the price in a 73-67 setback to the Explorers at John Glaser Arena.
GW never led by more than seven in the contest but seemingly had control with a 60-54 lead and six minutes remaining. But La Salle's Deuce Jones connected on a four-point play that swung the momentum and spurred an 8-0 La Salle run.
To its credit, the Buff & Blue responded to take the lead on a Gerald Drumgoole Jr. 3-point play and moved in front again, 65-64, on a Christian Jones layup with 2:33 left. However, La Salle took the lead on the next possession, forced a GW turnover, and then took its largest lead of the day to that point on a 3-pointer from Corey McKeithan. Four free throws salted the game away for the home side.
GW shot well (46.6%) and had 18 assists on its 27 made field goals but was unable to control La Salle on the glass as the Explorers were +10 overall and grabbed 20 offensive rebounds that led to 21 second-chance points.
Drumgoole led a trio of GW Revs in double figures with 19 points, making four 3-pointers in the opening 20 minutes. Sean Hansen added 11 points and three assists, while Rafael Castro finished a rebound shy of his ninth double-double of the year with 10 points and nine boards.
Now at the halfway point of conference play at 4-5, the Buff & Blue head home seeking payback against first-place George Mason after the Patriots pulled out a double OT victory in Fairfax two weeks ago. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday night at the Smith Center with coverage available on ESPN+.
