HISTORY VS. GEORGE MASON
A GW win on Wednesday would secure a series split for the fourth-consecutive season. GW had won the first meeting in each of the last three years. Mason has won back-to-back games in the series and is looking for its first three-game winning streak since taking four in a row from Feb. 10, 2018 - March 14, 2019. Since Mason joined the A-10 in 2013-14, GW holds a 14-10 record, including an 8-2 mark at Smith Center.
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS
George Mason is riding high atop the A-10 with an 8-1 mark halfway through the conference season. The Patriots have won seven games in a row, including six games decided by eight points or less and a pair of OT triumphs.
Darius Maddox continues to pace Mason with 13.7 ppg and is joined in double figures by Jalen Haynes (12.2 ppg) and Brayden O'Connor (10.1 ppg). Haynes and Maddox scored 17 points apiece in the first meeting between the two squads.
Mason prides itself on the defensive end of the floor, where it ranks second nationally in FG% defense (36.3%) and eighth nationally in scoring defense (62.1 ppg). Per KenPom, the Patriots have the second-best two-point defense in the country, limiting foes to 41.5% and are also second in the NCAA in effective FG percentage defense (43.0%). The net result is the 19th-best defensive efficiency in the country, and best in the A-10.
