WASHINGTON - Opening the season at home, the GW Swimming & Diving program was bested by the Virginia Tech squad on Saturday afternoon in the Smith Center. The women fell to the Hokies, 211-89, while the men were defeated, 218-81. 
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
·      Ava Topolewski opened up the morning with GW's first event win, claiming the 1,000-yard free in 9:53.60. The senior topped the competition by more than six seconds. Topolewski once again emerged victorious in the 500-yard free, notching a 4:50.42 to win the race. 
·      Isabel Sayag (2:02.77) took a close second to Virginia Tech's Julia Murphy (2:02.74) in the 200-yard fly. 
·      Olivia Paquette earned the No. 1 slot in the women's 3-meter dive, winning the event with a score of 307.65. 
·      Paquette also took second in the women's 1-meter dive, scoring a 270.90 behind Peyton Guziec of Virginia Tech who notched a 272.70. 

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

·      Starting strong for the men was Daniel Choi, earning the win in the 1,000-yard free in 9:19.03, joining Topolewski in being ahead of the competition by more than six seconds. Choi also took second in the 500-yard free in 4:28.43. 
·      Alessandro Borsato put together a solid showing in the 100-yard breaststroke, checking in with a time of 56.06 to finish second overall. 
·      In the 200-yard fly, Andres Brooks earned second in 1:47.63, falling behind only to Landon Gentry of Virginia Tech (1:47.43).  
·      Daniel Nagy earned second in the 100-yard fly, finishing in 48.35. 
·      The 400-yard free relay team finished the afternoon for the Buff & Blue with a 3:02.43 finish, good for second overall. 
·      Holden Wheeler led GW in both the 1- and 3-meter dives.
