Topolewski, Wood and Brooks Capture A-10 Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards

WASHINGTON – GW swimming & diving earned three A-10 awards following The Dual Meet Tournament, as AJ Wood and Ava Topolewski have been named as the A-10 Men's and Women's Performers of the Week, and Andres Brooks has been named the A-10 Men's Rookie of the Week.
Topolewski added another career accolade with her fifth-career A-10 Performer of the Week award. The senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, swam the 500-yard free in all three of GW's duals in Atlanta, which included a pair of first-place results vs. Georgia (4:48.36) and Army (4:47.33). Topolewski was also a key piece in three of GW's second-place relays, the 200-yard free relay (1:32.93) vs. Georgia, the 200-yard free relay (1:32.95) vs. Minnesota and the 400-yard free relay (3:27.49) vs. Army.
Wood was consistent all weekend for the Revolutionaries in Atlanta, capturing one first-place finish and six second-place results. Wood helped GW with a win vs. Minnesota in the 100-yard free (44.41), and also took home two individual second-place finishes, in the 100-yard free (44.28) vs. Army and the 50-yard free (20.64) vs. Georgia. The senior from San Antonio, Texas, also helped GW to four second-place finishes in relays, swimming in the 400-yard medley relay (3:15.34) and the 200-yard free relay (1:21.06) vs. Minnesota, the 400-yard freestyle relay (2:58.32) vs. Army and the 200-yard free relay (1:21.49) vs. Georgia.
The rookie Brooks was also a standout for GW at The Dual Meet Tournament, submitting high finishes throughout the duals, including a first-place result in the 200-yard fly (1:47.32) vs. Army. Brooks captured other impressive individual finishes, finishing third in the 500-yard free (4:35.05) vs. Army, third in the 100-yard fly (48.57) vs. Georgia and fourth in the 200-yard IM (1:51.37) as GW's top finisher in the event vs. Minnesota. Brooks, out of Austin, Texas, was a part of three podium-finishing relays – coming in third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:28.62) vs. Army, third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:17.77) vs. Georgia and third in the 200-yard free relay (1:23.02) vs. Minnesota.
Brooks, Topolewski, Wood and the rest of the Revolutionaries return to the competition on Saturday, Nov. 1, in a home dual meet vs. Navy in Arlington, Va., at Long Bridge Park.
