Tennis Dominates George Mason, Secures Season-Opening Win

FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Washington tennis team opened the 2025 spring season in perfect fashion, dominating George Mason, 7-0, for the first win of the new year. GW tallied a clean sweep in all nine matches on Saturday evening, the first time the Buff & Blue have done so since March 11, 2024.
The Revolutionaries set the tone for the evening in doubles action, dominating the court to pick up the early 1-0 lead. The pair of Karen Verduzco and Vaida Matuseviciute recorded a 6-3 win in first doubles, while Madison Lee and Victoria Sasinka shut out the Patriots, 6-0, in second doubles. Senior Alejandra Ramirez started off her final collegiate season on a high note, pairing up with teammate Solange Skeene for a 7-6 (7-5) win in third doubles.
In singles play, Sasinka cruised to a 7-5, 6-1 win in the one-spot, while Matuseviciute recorded a 6-4, 6-1 second singles win in her first collegiate match as a rookie. Lee was lights out in third singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win, while Verduzco was equally impressive with a 6-3, 6-1 dub in the four-spot. Skeene wrapped up her day with an 8-3 victory for GDUB, while Ramirez rounded things out with an 8-2 win in sixth singles for the Buff & Blue.
The Revolutionaries defeated George Mason for the 21st consecutive time dating back to the 2007 season. GW has shut out the Patriots in 14 of those contests. GDUB returns to the courts on Friday for the team's home opener. Match time is set for 11:00 a.m. against Mount St. Mary's at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center (SETLC) in D.C.
