Cross Country Sets Sights on Cantello Invitational

WASHINGTON- Following a stellar start to the 2024 season, the George Washington men's and women's cross country teams will compete at the Cantello Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 7. The event, hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Md., has a start time of 9 a.m.
WEEK REWIND
During last week's season opener at the BIG EAST Preview, GW put together a dominating performance both in the men's and women's races. The women, led by junior Sarah Mitchell, claimed a first-place victory in the team category. Along with the team victory, Mitchell claimed a new personal record in the 5k (17:29), clocking the fourth-fastest time in school history. Along with Mitchell, the women's event was also headlined by first-year Amelia Ogawa, who tallied a 5k time of 17:59 in her debut with the Buff & Blue for a third-place finish.Â

On the men's side, GW was led by junior Michael Bohlke, who tallied a time of 18:30 in the 6k. Bohlke was followed closely behind by Jacob Heredia (18:31) to claim first and second place in the event for GW. The Revolutionaries will look to capitalize on their early successes this weekend in Annapolis.Â
THE COMPETITION
The Cantello Invitational, hosted at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., currently has a start time of 9 a.m. on Saturday. An open 5k will kick off the event at 9 a.m. The women's 6k race will then begin at 9:45, while the men's 4.9 mile run is scheduled for a tentative start time of 10:30 a.m.
Last season, the GW Revs tallied a second place finish in both the men's and women's categories. This year, they will look to avenge host Navy to claim the meet title.Â
