Yohannes Earns First A-10 Volleyball Player of the Week Honors

WASHINGTON -Â Senior Salem Yohannes has claimed the first A-10 player of the week honors of the 2024 season, the conference office announced Tuesday.Â

First-year Jae Fitting of Loyola Chicago claimed defensive player of the week and Addy Brus (SLU) earned A-10 rookie of the week honors for the first week of the 2024 campaign.Â

In her career with the Revolutionaries, Yohannes has appeared in 227 sets and tallied 557 kills. This is the first time the Woodbridge, Va. native has claimed a weekly honor from the conference.Â

Yohannes averaged 3.70 kills per set and 4.50 points per set for the Revolutionaries as GW began its regular season with two wins against UC Riverside and Howard. In Saturday's win over the Bison, Yohannes recorded 15 kills, swinging a career-high .517 hitting percentage while also collecting three service aces and 11 digs for her first double-double of 2024. Across the entire opening weekend, Yohannes swung behind a .295 hitting percentage and tallied 37 kills across three matches.Â

The Revolutionaries will return to action on Friday, September 6, as they travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. to face Oakland in the Eastern Michigan tournament. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.Â
