Revolutionaries and Seawolves kick off at LaValle Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
WASHINGTON - The George Washington University men's soccer team (1-2-0, 0-0-0 A-10) is back on the road on Tuesday evening in Long Island to face off against Stony Brook (0-2-1, 0-0-0 CAA). GW is looking for its first road win of the season, while Stony Brook is searching for its first win in 2024. Kickoff at LaValle Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m. and the match will be streamed live on Flo FC.
CHANCES ARE COMING
The Revolutionaries have outshot their opponents through the first three matches, 43-35, and they're creating shots at a much higher rate than they were to start the 2023 season. GW averaged eight shots through the first three games of 2023 and just over nine shots per game for all of last season. Despite having just two shots at No. 4 West Virginia on Friday, GW has averaged over 14 shots per game to start 2024, and its 26 shots against Saint Peter's are the most it's had in a single game since 2021.
The Buff & Blue's chances are coming and they're coming from up and down the roster. Eight players are averaging at least one shot per game, led by transfer forward Jaden Dubon with seven shot attempts.
SCOUTING STONY BROOK
Stony Brook will play its second-consecutive match on home field on Tuesday night. The Seawolves are coming off a 1-0 loss on Thursday to GW's next opponent, Rider. The Seawolves are 0-1-1 in their two away matches this season, opening the season with a 2-1 loss at LIU and following that up with a 1-1 draw at St. Johns. GW beat Stony Brook a season ago, 3-1, in D.C., in a year when the Seawolves went 6-6-5 (4-1-3 CAA), eventually falling 1-0 in their opening-round matchup of the CAA Tournament to Elon.
Jonas Bickus and Finlay Oliver have the goals for Stony Brook this season. Bickus paced the Seawolves with eight goals last season, while Oliver matched his season goal output from last season with his first. Graduate Forward Olsen Aluc is still looking for his first points of the season after finishing second to Bickus on the team in 2023 with 16 points, though Aluc has played limited minutes (66) to begin the season. Transfer goalkeeper Rushon Sandy has made each start and has a 1.33 goals allowed average and .750 save percentage.
GW has a 2-0-1 all-time record vs. the Seawolves. The programs first met in a 1-1 (2 OT) draw in 2017 in New York. GW has won both matches since at home, a 3-2 victory in 2018 and 3-1 win last season.
