Men’s Soccer Looks to Extend Win Streak at Home vs. Drexel Wednesday, at Villanova Sunday

GW men's soccer hits the field for two matches this week, as the Revolutionaries host Drexel at the GW Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon (2 p.m.), before visiting Villanova on Sunday (3 p.m.). Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
The Revolutionaries have their best record through the first-four matches of a season since 2014, having won three of their first-four contests to begin 2026. The Revolutionaries have been getting the job done away from home, with three-consecutive road wins for the first time since 2008, and now have the opportunity to continue its win streak at home on Wednesday.
GW has won its last three matches by a combined score of 8-0, shutting out its opponents in three-straight matches for the first time since 2015, and doing so in three-straight road matches for the first time since 1978. First-year head coach Matt Watts became the first coach in program history to win three of his first-four matches.
GW meets Drexel for just the second time in program history on Wednesday after first meeting in 1998, which resulted in a 1-0 Dragons' win. Drexel visits D.C. at 2-2, coming off two-straight losses, most recently to No. 13 Hofstra. Goalkeeper Raphael Bartell has been a bright spot for the Dragons this season with a 0.75 GAA and 0.824 save percentage, while Victor Moerck leads their attack with two goals. Drexel was picked to finish fourth in the CAA North Division after finishing 2025 at 4-6-6 with a 2-5-1 mark in conference.
The Revolutionaries also face Villanova for the second time in program history and are looking for their first win vs. the Wildcats after dropping the first meeting in 2019, 1-0. Villanova sits at 3-1-1 on the season which includes a 1-0 win vs. A10 rival Fordham. Villanova was picked sixth in the East Division of the Big East's preseason poll after going 7-6-5 with a 2-3-3 conference record in 2025. Villanova has also received top goalkeeping to begin the season, as Alexander Yagudayev carries a 0.40 GAA with a 0.939 save percentage. Luke Martelli has one goal and two assists, leading the Wildcats' offense with four points.
