Revolutionaries Hold Off Howard, 3-0

WASHINGTON -Â In 3-0 victory over the Howard Bison, the George Washington Revolutionaries claimed their second victory of the season, 25-19, 25-18, 25-19. The win moves the GW Revs to a 22-10 overall record against the Bison all-time. The win also marks the first victory over the Bison since the 2020 campaign.Â

The Revolutionaries reached double figures in kills (39), with senior Salem Yohannes commanding the GW offense with 15 kills and three service aces. Following closely behind were senior MC Daubendiek who tallied seven kills and first-year Taylor Treahy who also clocked seven kills and two blocks in her second collegiate match. At setter, Dilara ElmacıoÄźlu and Abby Markworth contributed 15 assists apiece to feed the attack, while junior Cianna Tejada was defensively dominant at the net tallying six blocks.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
To start the match, Tejada opened with a kill off a set from Elmacıoğlu. The Revolutionaries then widened the lead despite the efforts from the Bison. The lead narrowed throughout the set, but defensive successes from Tejada and Treahy propelled GDUB to the 25-19 victory. The first set was also the Revolutionaries' most efficient set, swinging with an impressive .300 hitting percentage.

In the second set of play, the Bison and Revolutionaries traded points to begin the set. However, several service aces from graduate Reilly Heinrich, Abby Markworth and Kelsey Watkins ultimately pushed GW up 2-0 over the Bison.Â

GW quickly took the lead 9-3 in set three, with Markworth continuing to consistently feed the attack. Kills from Hayley Brown and Treahy in the final points of action propelled the Revolutionaries to the victory over the Bison.Â
