Men’s and women’s swimming & diving take home Team of the Year honors
For the first-time ever hosted in the main arena of the Charles E. Smith Center, a venue that has hosted many of the top entertainment acts of all-time, hosts Darren Buchanan Jr. (men's basketball), Mia Cremona (rowing), Lizzie Cruz (women's soccer), Andrew McCabe (men's track & field) and Michael Wood (men's swimming & diving) took their turn putting on a show to celebrate the university's best and brightest student-athletes, teams and moments from the past year.
Dressed to the nines outside of their practice gear and uniforms, GW's student-athletes, coaches and staff walked the buff carpet before awards and MVPs were bestowed.
The winners were:
Raise High our Community Student-Athlete (most community service): Celeste Noraian (rowing) and Ethan Tulenko (men's swimming)
Raise High our Community Team: Gymnastics
Determination, Commitment and Respect Teammate Award: Tim Neumann (men's soccer) and Celeste Noraian (rowing)
Fan of the Year: Sonya Rankin
Academic Team of the Year: Tennis
Raise High Donor of the Year: Meena Lakdawala-Flynn (gymnastics alumna)
Moment of the Year: Djurdje Matic becoming an All-American
Dan Black Award for resilience in the face of adversity: Garrett Johnson (men's basketball)
Staff Appreciation Award: Josh Conwell
Rookies of the Year: Darren Buchanan Jr. (men's basketball) and Maya Peters (gymnastics)
George's Games winner (most supportive to fellow teams): Softball
Red Auerbach Award for well-rounded excellence: Jakub Hrinda (golf) and Nya Lok (women's basketball)
Athletes of the Year: Ava DeAngelis and Ava Topolewski (women's swimming) and Djurdje Matic (men's swimming)
